OAKLAND, Pa. — Two infected animals escaped from a lab at the University of Pittsburgh in 2016, and now a worker who reported it is suing, saying the university retaliated against her.
A monkey and a rabbit infected with a 'select agent' got out of their cages at the Regional Biocontainment Lab. They were later recaptured.
According to a new lawsuit, researcher Kelly Stefano-Cole says the university told her not to let the National Institutes of Health know about it.

After questioning leaders, Cole claims she was singled out and disciplined for things like lab sign-in violations and inappropriate attire.
She lost her job early last year and now wants back pay. Channel 11 reached out to Pitt, which said it could not comment on pending litigation.
