Fundraiser held for Dakota James Foundation

An event at City Theatre on Friday night was to raise money for a foundation to help families of missing people.

The Dakota James Foundation was formed after Dakota disappeared nearly a year ago.

Months later, his body was found in the Ohio River.

The medical examiner ruled it an accident, but his family thinks otherwise.

The James' family's goal is to improve surveillance systems in the city, especially on bridges.

"People in this city remember us," said Jeff James, Dakota's father. "They remember our son. They remember our story and they've been kind, loving, generous, just couldn't ask for anything more. Tonight is just terrific."

Dakota's mother did not want to speak after the event, but recently spoke with Channel 11.
