Giant Eagle opens without front door, police arrest two teens

MCDONALD, Pa — The Giant Eagle in McDonald was open for business Tuesday, without a front door.

Only Channel 11 obtained surveillance video showing two young men taking a shopping cart and ramming it into the glass door, then grabbing a stop sign to do the same thing.

The video goes on to show them running away before police pulled up moments later.

“When we arrived we located a stop sign in the door, glass was broke, whole left side of the door was broken out,” said Officer Mike Dhanse with McDonald Police.

Police reviewed the surveillance video and told Channel 11's Cara Sapida they immediately recognized one of the suspects.

“I try to be active in the community, stop down, meet the kids, play basketball with them,” Officer Dhanse said. “The one actor, the adult in this case, I just played basketball with last week.”

Police arrested 18-year-old Austin Fawcett at his parent’s house, where they said Fawcett admitted to vandalizing the property on a dare.
