Giant Eagle opening one hour early for senior citizens, other vulnerable customers

Giant Eagle just announced beginning on Monday it will be opening one hour early on select days at all Giant Eagle and Market District stores for customers who are over the age of 60, differently abled or immune-compromised.

The stores will open at 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday.

The company said its employees will not be checking IDs, and request other customers respect the dedicated hour.

Staff will be available to help those who need special accommodations.

Dollar General also enacted a similar policy earlier in the week. The discount store is limiting shopping during the first hour of the day to senior citizens, but it didn’t specify age in response to a shopper’s question. Those stores will also close an hour earlier than normal to allow for restocking and cleaning of the stores.
