Here are positive things happening within our community (5/12/20)

PITTSBURGH — We know that the coronavirus pandemic is an overwhelming and stressful time for everybody, so we’re going to put together some positive things that are happening within our community to help those in need.

Drive-by bridal shower in Glenshaw

Mallory’s original “Beauty and the Beast-Tea Party Shower” had to be cancelled, but that did not stop her family from throwing the best bridal shower that they could.

Mallory and Andy’s family and friends stopped in their cars to see the couple, sitting in a driveway decorated for a tea party. The cars were decorated, some playing music from Beauty and the Beast, some with signs and there were even a few costumes.


Nursing staff surprises doctor who is missing daughter’s Sweet 16 while he cares for patients

Dr. Michael Bell has been caring for patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC since the pandemic began, but his wife and daughter are back home in Pittsburgh.

The nursing staff teamed up to create a video to let her know how much they appreciated her sharing her dad with them!

Our healthcare heroes are making sacrifices every day. For Dr. Michael Bell, it means he’s working around the clock caring for kids in our pediatric intensive care unit and missing his daughter’s Sweet 16 celebration. She’s back home in Pennsylvania finishing up the school year. But our PICU team wasn’t going to let the milestone go uncelebrated! Thank you for sharing your dad with us, Gabby!

Kane Community Living Centers to hold Mother’s Day celebrations all week

The Kane Community Living Centers announced Tuesday that its Mother’s Day celebrations for residents will last all week long.

“The past few months have been challenging and not being able to spend special occasions, like Mother’s Day, with their loved ones has been tough. By celebrating this holiday all week long, we’re giving our residents an extra boost and recognizing the connections with their families that are so important,” said Dennis Biondo, director of the Kane Centers.

All four locations will host several events throughout the week, including a cheesecake social, trivia, scratch-off bingo, and Primanti Sandwich Day.


North Hills church offering free Grab and Go meals for kids

The North Hills Christian Church is offering free grab and go meals for kids.

The church has partnered with the Sarah Heinz House for the giveaway.

Kids will get free meals and snacks. It’s happening all week long from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The church is located on Thompson-Run Road.


Local police departments, businesses deliver free pizzas to Allegheny Co. residents

Local police departments and businesses came together Saturday to donate free pizzas to Allegheny County residents.

In all, a total of 675 pizzas were handed out by officers at the RIDC Industrial Center and in Harrison and Crawford Villages.

Local business distributes food, supplies, gift cards

A local business handed out food, cases of water, infrared thermometers and gift cards to the first responders in the Ambridge area.
