UNIONTOWN, Pa. — A Kentucky man arrested in Uniontown in connection with the rioting at the U.S. Capitol will be tried on five counts, a judge ruled Thursday.
At a virtual federal detention hearing, Judge Lisa Lenihan ruled there was enough probable cause to proceed with a case against Peter Schwartz.
Schwartz faces several charges, including violent entry and obstruction of law enforcement. Prosecutors said he sprayed mace at Capitol police officers.
Schwartz now faces a detention hearing in Washington, D.C., where a decision will be made about whether he remains in federal custody pending his trial.
Federal investigators said photos showed him in the crowd at the Capitol. They also said his Facebook page had evidence he was there.
“All the violence from the left was terrorism. What happened yesterday was the opening of a war. I was there and whether people will acknowledge it or not, we are now at war. It would be wise to be ready!” he wrote on his social media.
A Bridgeville man has been arrested and charged with participating in the riot.

A Mercer County mother of eight who was caught in pictures and videos storming the Capitol was ordered released on $10,000 bond last week and held on house arrest.
Federal prosecutors are appealing that ruling.
