Local child care center not reopening until June despite move to yellow phase

WESTMORELAND CO., Pa. — The playground would normally be bustling with kids during the afternoon at Frock Child Care in Mount Pleasant, but the owner is choosing to stay closed until June 1 despite being able to open today.

“It has been emotional. My mind has gone up and down, worried about what we should do and shouldn’t do, but I just feel it’s too early. I can’t do it in the yellow and then have to close again,” said owner Charlene Frock.

It was a gut-wrenching decision for Frock, staying closed until June.

“The best thing to do is hold off and wait these few weeks. See where we’re going then open up slowly,” Frock said. “We’re going to do phases, we’re not just opening up June 1 and everybody’s coming back. I even have my staff staggered coming back.”

She said Frock Child Care has already had sanitizing procedures in place because they have 275 Kids enrolled here, but they’re ramping it up even more.

“We have to take their temperatures and have to record it daily – four times a day – and we actually have to take the parent’s temperature too. So, if a parent has a temp they have to take the child and go home,” Frock said.
