Local mother on a mission to save others after 17-year-old son’s drug overdose

PITTSBURGH — “All it took was one time. He’s gone. If I can save anybody else, I want to.”

Jason Lott, a 17 year old high school student who just became a new father, suddenly passed away. His mom says it was his first time experimenting with a drug and now she is on a mission to help save others.

Gina Bingenho can’t stop thinking about what she misses the most.

“His big strong hugs. His beautiful smile just constantly hearing mom, mom,” she said. “He was so loving, always smiling. Very protective of his family and friends.”

He also loved spending time with his dog and he just became a new dad.

“He had a daughter on April 1 and he was really excited talking about how he was going to be an amazing father and couldn’t wait until she got older and could do stuff,” Bingenho said.

She is still trying to process what happened to her son one week ago.

“If I can save anybody else I want to. It was his first time experimenting with that drug and if you are thinking about it just don’t do it. Cause all it took was one batch one time,” she said.

Jason died from a fentanyl overdose.

He was a student at Penn Hills High School.

Jasons mother is hoping she can prevent other young people from experimenting with drugs.

“Don’t think you can just try it because that’s what my son thought. Now he’s gone,” she said. “Please don’t do it. If you’re going through something or you need someone to talk to, call somebody.”
