Man cleaning gutters electrocuted in Washington County

AVELLA, Pa. — A Washington County man was electrocuted and died while cleaning gutters in Hopewell Township.

According to the Washington County Coroner’s Office, Joseph Bevec, 57, of Canonsburg, was working as a handyman cleaning gutters at a residence on Brush Run Road, Avella, around 9:30 a.m. when the aluminum ladder he was using came in contact with a high-voltage power line.

Bevec was pronounced dead at the scene about 11:04 a.m. His death was ruled an accident.

Ambulance and Chair Service, West Middletown and Avella fire departments and crews from West Penn Power responded to the scene.

State police are investigating.
