Man drove from Minnesota to meet 15-year-old boy in Westmoreland Co., police say

VANDERGRIFT — A Wisconsin man is facing charges in Westmoreland County after police say he drove from Minnesota to meet with a minor.

Ethan Haley, 22, of Hagercity, Wisconsin, is being held in the Westmoreland County Jail on $100,000 cash bail after being charged with felony unlawful contact with a minor and disseminating sexually explicit material to a minor.

According to the criminal complaint, Haley’s vehicle was pulled over when police saw the vehicle moving without headlights shortly before 12:30 a.m. Monday.

Haley was driving the vehicle, and police said a 15-year-old boy was a passenger. The boy told police that he had met Haley over Snapchat and Haley had sent him explicit photos. He said he had snuck out of the house to meet Haley but told police “that when he got into the car with Haley he got a bad feeling and Haley was a little ‘handsy.’”

Haley told police that he had just gotten off probation in Minnesota for sex offenses, and was traveling from Wisconsin to meet friends in South Carolina, but detoured to Vandergrift to meet with the juvenile to tell him “that they cannot have a sexual relationship.”
