Man hospitalized with burns after jumping from roof to escape flames

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — A man leaped from a porch roof to escape a fire at a house in New Kensington Sunday night.

Police and firefighters responded shortly before 10:30 p.m. to Victoria Avenue, where a home was engulfed by flames, officials said.

Vanessa Lynch said she and her fiancé, Jeremy Taylor, came home from the grocery store and saw their home on fire.

Taylor went inside to try to save their cats and got trapped on the second floor, so he made his way to the back porch’s roof and jumped.

Taylor was taken to the burn unit at UPMC Mercy Hospital with third-degree burns on his hands and face.

Lynch said she and Taylor lost everything, including their four cats.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
