PITTSBURGH — A Brentwood man was sentenced to house arrest for the beating death of his roommate.
A judge ordered Justin Vankirk to serve one year of house arrest followed by three years of probation in the death of Charles Parker. Vankirk was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in November.
Officials said Vankirk beat Parker after a fight over beer in 2016.

During the altercation, Vankirk hit Parker, then dragged is body to the dining room area and left him overnight, according to officials.
The next day, Parker was found dead.
The judge had said before Thursday that he didn't believe Vankirk meant to kill Parker.
Vankirk has been on house arrest for the last 14 months, during which time he sought treatment for alcoholism.
He also told the judge Parker was his best friend.
