Man taken to hospital after shooting in Pittsburgh neighborhood

PITTSBURGH — An 18-year-old man was taken to the hospital after being shot in the chest on Locust Street in Mt. Oliver on Saturday night.

According to Allegheny County 911 officials, the call for a five-round ShotSpotter came in at approximately 10:18 p.m. A neighbor reported at least eight shots were fired, and the sound of gunfire was caught on a home security camera.

“I don’t care how many times you watch it. It’s like, jarring when you hear it happen,” Joe Visnic, who lives only feet away from where the man was shot, said. “It was before police got here yet, the kid was in the street. His friend was screaming. Once the cops started showing up, of course, we stayed around here,” he said.

Visnic’s vehicle and another car were also hit with bullets. He said with all the shootings in the city, you get desensitized, but what really bothers him is he moved his mother to Mt. Oliver from the suburbs.

“I feel horrible, you know, moving her down here and, what, there’s gunfire erupting where she parks her car,” he said.

At this time, police are still investigating and do not have anyone in custody.

Police say the victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

County Police are asking anyone who may know anything about the shooting here to call their tip line.
