PITTSBURGH — Nine months after a beloved mother, daughter, neighbor and friend was hit and killed in a crash, the other driver is charged with vehicular homicide.
On April 24, Pamela McAllister was on 16th street in the Strip District trying to make a left turn onto Liberty Avenue. Police say Leonard Saus ran a red light and T-boned McAllister’s car. It was 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning.
McAllister’s car was destroyed from the impact. Car parts were thrown into the intersection and the hood of the car was compressed so severely that the front airbags looked like they were in the back seat.

First responders even had to cut off her driver’s side door just to get McAllister out. They tried to resuscitate her, but she didn’t survive.
Police have now issued an arrest warrant for Saus. Police say the cameras along Liberty and 16th tell the story. Police say Saus’s light was solid red when he flew through the intersection, striking McAllister at 43 mph, never even applying the breaks on his SUV.
Saus’s son was in the car at the time of the crash. He told investigators, “His father picked him up at the methadone clinic and the crash occurred as they were driving home.”
Police say, “Several attempts were made to interview Saus, but phone calls were not returned. Saus did answer the phone once but hung up on investigators.”
Saus is not in custody, but there is a warrant for his arrest. A lawyer for Saus was not listed on his court paperwork.
