But the reality is that it comes as COVID-19 cases are climbing.

The latest numbers from Allegheny County speak for themselves. Nearly 400 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported over a 48-hour period.

Despite the statistics, The Millvale Music Festival is in full swing.

“There are still a lot of considerations and things people are talking about, worried about, and that’s fair,” explained the festival’s organizer, Paul Bossung.

At the outdoor stages, there aren’t any requirements to mask up; and for venues and vendors inside, It’s up to the individual business to determine what they think is best, and there are certainly mixed feelings.

“I would encourage everyone to keep their masks on, especially in the stores. It’s a difficult topic. I’d say everyone do what feels safe,” vendor Anika Ignozzi said.

Event organizers told Channel 11 that some businesses are strongly recommending masks for all customers, and requiring masks if you haven’t been vaccinated, but it’s nearly impossible to police an honor system.

“It’s up to the local business. We organize the festival, but they’re not our businesses. So if any of them have specific precautions, that’s up to them. But as a festival, we are asking everyone to do what they feel is safe,” Bossung said.

Another favorite festival, Picklesburgh, is scheduled for later this month.
