MOON, Pa. — A Moon man was held over for trial Tuesday on charges he attempted to strangle his estranged wife in March, more than a week before their house exploded, an incident Allegheny County officials are still investigating.
Ryan Arreola, 28, appeared before Magisterial District Judge Mary P. Murray to answer to strangulation and terroristic threats charges arising from an alleged attack on his wife Arica, who said he placed both of his hands around her neck so she couldn’t breathe while the couple argued about a DUI charge he had recently received.

Her father also played a voicemail in which Ryan Arreola said, “I’m going to kill all of you” and “You’re just lucky I haven’t killed you.”
Defense attorney David Shrager admitted his client, a former Marine, was upset but declined to elaborate after Murray held the charges over for trial.
“He’ll be saying his piece in court,” Shrager said.
Investigators have said Ryan Arreola is also a person of interest in the Convair Drive home explosion that rocked his Moon neighborhood on March 23 and killed the couple’s two dogs.
