‘Most Wanted’ man with lengthy criminal history arrested in Wilkinsburg

WILKINSBURG, Pa. — A man who was on the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office’s “Most Wanted” list was arrested Tuesday in Wilkinsburg, the office announced.

Carlos Hart, Jr., 27, was arrested Tuesday morning at a duplex on Mill Street, where a first-floor tenant confirmed he was inside the building with her daughter, officials said. As deputies began negotiating with Hart to surrender himself, they said they could hear a firearm racking. After about 10 minutes of negotiations, Hart surrendered to deputies.

Hart had been featured on the “Most Wanted” list since April 2021, though his criminal history dates back to a July 2012 armed robbery.

In the 2012 robbery, Hart took money and a cellphone from someone who was walking along 56th Street in Pittsburgh’s Stanton Heights neighborhood, authorities said. He was later arrested for the robbery and pleaded guilty to numerous charges before being sentenced to 11 ½ to 23 months in prison and two years of probation.

In September 2020, an arrest warrant was issued for Hart for allegedly ramming his vehicle into his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle while they were both at a red light on Penn Avenue, according to authorities. He’s also accused of making threats toward and pointing a gun at his ex during that incident.

Since then, he became wanted on three more arrest warrants and a bench warrant.

In March 2021, a gun and a digital scale with suspected marijuana residue were found in a vehicle when Hart was pulled over by the Allegheny County Police Department, officials said.

“Due to the September 2020 and March 2021 incidents, a bench warrant was issued for Hart for a violation of probation/parole stemming from the 2012 sentence,” a news release from the sheriff’s office said.

Next, in June 2021, Hart’s ex-girlfriend contacted authorities about threatening text messages she was receiving from Hart, in addition to him allegedly following her and making threats against her and her family.

The sheriff’s office said it was contacted in December 2021 by the Monroeville Police Department because Hart was involved in a pursuit, during which he crashed into three occupied vehicles. His new girlfriend, Shavonte Law, was a passenger in his vehicle, and charges were filed against her for allegedly knowing Hart was a fugitive and “aiding in concealing his whereabouts by providing hotel rooms to avoid apprehension,” the sheriff’s office’s release stated.
