Owners of the Yard American Gastropub open in former Sienna on the Square, Downtown

PITTSBURGH — When the former Sienna on the Square space in Market Square became available amid the pandemic, Mike Allen and his partners found they had an appetite for opportunity amid all the challenges of a downtown deep in a Covid-caused slump.

“When things are bad and people are scared, it’s the opportunity to buy and expand,” said Allen, who owns the neighboring Yard American Gastropub along with partners David Ondik and Nirav Patel. “We like to go against the grain a lot of times.”

Seven years after debuting the first Yard Gastropub in Shadyside and expanding it to four restaurants, Allen and company have quietly debuted a new restaurant in Market Square, turning the former Sienna space into what is now Slider Vibes, a fast casual restaurant focused on the popular smaller-sized burgers.
