Pittsburgh native Billy Porter to cast ‘authentic’ locals for new movie

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh native Billy Porter said he plans to cast “authentic Pittsburgh people” for his directorial debut project.

According to our partners at TribLive.com, Porter, a 1987 Pittsburgh CAPA and Taylor Allderdice graduate and a Carnegie Mellon University drama program alum, hopes to start filming in July for “What If?” The film will center on a high school boy who posts on social media about his crush on a trans girl at his school.

“I expect to cast a lot of Pittsburgh local actors, a lot of my mentors,” he said.
