Pittsburgh ranked 3rd-best city in America for foodies

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh has been ranked the third-best city in the nation for foodies by Apartment Guide.

“The 'Burgh is a unique mix of East Coast and Midwest, busy coastal and slower Great Lakes. And its cuisine represents that mix, as well,” it stated under the Pittsburgh ranking.

Some of the restaurants mentioned included Primanti Brothers, Wholey’s Gaucho Parrilla Argentina and Carmi Soul Food.

But how did it determine the best cities? According to Apartment Guide, it took only cities with a population of more than 100,000. From those 314 cities, it counted the total number of listed restaurants within city limits and the total number of local (non-chain) eateries. Then, it compared those numbers to each city’s total population and land area size. Afterward, it calculated each city’s number of restaurants — based on per capita restaurants per square mile and the percentage of non-chain restaurants.
