Pittsburgh Steelers help bring community together through mural

PITTSBURGH — Some Pittsburgh Steelers are using their week away from the playing field to help bring the community together.

They helped work on a mural in honor of John Lewis in the Uptown section of Pittsburgh.

The Georgia congressman and civil rights icon died in July.

The mural is part of the Pittsburgh Solidarity for Change project, aimed at bringing the community together with themes including solutions to police brutality, systemic racism and gun violence.

Steelers safety Terrell Edmunds left a message under the mural.

Edmunds said he felt an instant connection with the artist.

“I’d never met him before, but I felt like we felt pretty much the same because he said that he lost people to gun violence. I’ve lost people to gun violence and in this world right now, everyone is so separate and it’s a time that we all need to come together,” Edmunds said.

This is just one of 10 murals being constructed around the area.
