Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra planning digital start to 125th performance season

PITTSBURGH — New, free digital programming will mark the start of the 125th performance season for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Orchestra officials said due to public health guidance and government restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, the group had to reinvent their 2020-2021 season that will begin in the fall. Previously announced concerts from September to December have been canceled.

All subscribers to the 2020-2021 season will have their subscriptions rolled over to the next season. That includes BNY Mellon Grand Classics, PNC Pops, and Fiddlesticks Family Concerts.

Pillar elements such as artistic partnerships, commission, and Beethoven in Your Neighborhood will be incorporated into the performance season.

The Fall 2020 digital series will include ensembles of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra as well as community artists and partners when possible. The events will be produced along with health and safety guidelines, including wearing masks and social distancing.
