Planning a summer vacation? You may want to book sooner than later, especially older generations

PITTSBURGH — As things start to get warmer this time of year, many people are shaking off the winter dust to eagerly book travel plans. The number of people planning trips is on the rise and its not just your typical spring breakers.

“Within the last couple of months, we’ve seen a very large uptick in business, especially when you’re comparing it to most of the month last year,” said Joe Weigler with Shadyside Travel. “The uptick has been very good.”

Weigler said he and the rest of the staff are seeing huge increases in phone calls from people booking trips, especially older generations.

“For the Baby Boomers, there was practically no travel whatsoever last year after February. But now, we’re seeing more and more Baby Boomers starting to book their travel,” he said.

He thinks the vaccine is playing a major role.

“I think people are confident that if they haven’t gotten it, they will be getting it soon so they’re starting to make plans throughout the entire year,” Weigler said.

While business still isn’t back to where it should be, he said the more confident people feel about being vaccinated, the sooner we could reach the end of this pandemic tunnel.
