PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who was recorded on surveillance video vandalizing and trashing Freedom Corner.
According to police, the unidentified man was seen walking down Centre Avenue toward the Hill District landmark around 11:20 p.m. Friday. When he reached Freedom Corner, police said he vandalized and threw several items, including a tent, which had been organized in one corner of the square.

Investigators said the man briefly walked away before returning to throw more items on the sidewalk and into the street.
Freedom Corner has been the site of Danielle Brown’s continued protest, seeking answers into the death of her son: Duquesne University football player Marquis Brown. Channel 11 has followed the case of “JB” Brown since October 2018, when he jumped from the 16th floor of a dorm building, according to police.
This summer, she launched a hunger strike, took part in a protest and spelled out three demands: to have an open, new and independent investigation, to equip all Duquesne officers with body cameras and to train all Duquesne officers to handle mental health crises.
The motive behind the vandalism of Freedom Corner is unclear, and anyone with information on the man’s identity is asked to call police at 412-255-2827.
