Thousands of dollars' worth of jewelry stolen from Westmoreland County home

GREENSBURG, Pa. — Thousands of dollars worth of jewelry was stolen from a Westmoreland County home.

Greensburg police have identified a suspect in the case.

Police said they were able to catch him because he gave his name and ID at the business where he sold the stolen goods.

According to police, suspect James Dickant does not live very far from where the burglaries happened.

Several burglaries in the Academy Hill area have put neighbors on edge.

Police told Channel 11 one of the latest was on Kenlane Street, where a thief broke a window of a side door and took more than $19,000 worth of jewelry.

According to police, within a few days, that same jewelry showed up at a local pawn shop.

Police said the thief showed ID and, because there was a substantial amount of jewelry, the pawn shop notified the local police departments.

The sale was traced back to Dickant. His fiancé, Roxanna Mays, was allegedly with him when he sold the stolen jewelry.

Police said they've noticed the same motive in the other burglaries -- stealing things and then selling them quickly for cash. Investigators believe Dickant is likely the one person responsible for all the burglaries.

"We've had a few burglaries in that area," said Capt. Robert Stafford, with the Greensburg Police Department. "We've taken a few items to have fingerprinted. Nothing's come back yet but they're in close proximity of where this burglary occurred."

The victim won't be able to get all of her jewelry back because, police said, some of it was shipped to another store and some of it has already been melted down.
