HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall is in our area, a miniature version of the famed Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
It was set up at the Hampton Township Community Center on Thursday night.
Hundreds came out to pay their respects at the wall that bears thousands of names, each one a reminder to local veterans.

"I was only in the service eight months and four days after my training when I got hit," said Harry vanRiper, who lost his arm and leg in combat. "We were on break and all of a sudden all hell broke lose. Rockets bouncing everywhere."
He was in the 5th Infantry serving in Vietnam.
"If I hadn't put my hand up there, I would've lost both arms," he said.
The chaplain says coming to see the wall was tough; to this day, he hasn't been able to look at all the names of the friends he lost.
The wall cost $11,000 to bring in, but that money was brought in with donations and sponsorships. The goal is to bring the wall to people who may otherwise not be able to go to D.C.
