Tree of Lights returns to Point State Park in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — After being announced in 2020 that the Christmas tree in Point State Park would be lit for the final time, the ceremony will return this holiday season.

Duquesne Light Company originally announced that the tree would be retired last year, but following overwhelming public support with a petition that garnered more than 10,000 signatures, the company again partnered with Point State Park officials to bring it back in its current form one more time.

The tree will be lit in a private ceremony on Thursday. Joining the Duquesne Light Company for this year’s ceremony will be representatives from When She Thrives, an organization which supports single mothers and their children through mentorship, self-care and mental health services, financial assistance and more.

Plans are currently underway to create a new and more modern holiday light display that’s expected to continue the tradition that Pittsburghers have come to love over the years. Details of those plans will be announced in the coming months.
