URA could send up to $1M to fully acquire Hunt Armory

PITTSBURGH — The Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh voted Thursday to send as much as $1 million to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to fully acquire the Hunt Armory in Shadyside.

The Emerson Street landmark closed as an armory in 2013 and was acquired by the URA in July 2016. But there were conditions for the sale, namely that the state had the right to take back the property if it hadn’t conveyed it at fair market value by Dec. 31, 2019. But plans for the redevelopment of the site as a recreation center, including an ice rink, hasn’t moved as fast or as fully as hoped.
