Widespread flooding reported across Washington County

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Widespread flooding was a problem Thursday in Washington County.

Reports of flooded roads have poured in as heavy rain caused creeks to quickly rise.

Residents are nervous for what's to come; and they're still cleaning up from recent flooding that bent a guide rail and caused roads to buckle.

"Real scary, I'm just watching all the time," said Helen Eckels, who has been looking out her window to monitor the Chartiers Creek as it continues to rise. "It was up pretty high here awhile ago."

It's a known trouble spot that flooded last week in Canton Township, causing the debris and pavement to wash up and bend the guardrail.

As the rain poured down again Thursday morning, roads all across Washington County flooded and temporarily closed, like Green Valley Road in Taylorstown, where Channel 11 captured water-knee deep.

Denise Rafter lives nearby in Claysville and her home is also alongside another fast-moving creek.

Eckels told Channel 11 the creek by her house has gone down a lot since the rain briefly stopped.

Businesses are also being affected.

A fast-moving creek was inching towards Edward Lewicki's apartment at Bob's Tavern and Motel.
