The 17-year-old victim was shot in the head, the Post-Standard of Syracuse reported.
A witness told the newspaper the shooting occurred during an annual outdoor community gathering called “Rye Day,” and a woman identifying herself as the party’s hostess, Annetta Peterson, said she has hosted the gathering for 14 years without incident to honor her son, Rydell Davis.
“I’ve had a birthday party for my son every year, and this never happened,” she told the newspaper. “This never, ever happened.”
According to witnesses, shots rang out just after the party concluded.
Just got to West Street, the other side of the crime scene, where this party took place. Police say with “a few hundred people.” You can see the tents still set up and trash all over the parking lot. pic.twitter.com/j9SWGuTOsZ
