LAREDO, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers recently seized hard narcotics valued at more than $6.4 million in three unrelated busts at the Laredo Port of Entry.
The first interception occurred Tuesday at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge when CBP officers encountered a 2013 Freightliner tractor and empty trailer en route from Mexico. Further inspection of the trailer, however, revealed 40 packages containing nearly 106 pounds of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of more than $800,000.
Later that same evening, CBP officers, also at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge, encountered a second 2013 Freightliner tractor and empty trailer inbound from Mexico. Investigators discovered 40 packages containing nearly 273 pounds of suspected methamphetamine with an estimated street value of nearly $5.5 million hidden in the trailer.
The third interception occurred Thursday at the World Trade Bridge when CBP officers encountered an express consignment truck making entry from Mexico. Further investigation of the packages within the shipment netted four packages containing roughly 7 pounds of suspected fentanyl with an estimated street value of nearly $200,000.
CBP officers seized the narcotics and both trailers before turning the cases over to the special agents with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.
