EAST HADDAM, Conn. — A Connecticut woman needed a pitchfork and some help from her donkey to fend off two attacks, a spokesman for the state’s environmental agency said Wednesday.
The woman, from East Haddam, has been undergoing rabies treatments since the Oct. 22 attacks, according to Will Healy, a spokesperson for the state’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Wildlife Division.
The coyote bit the woman’s boot before being kicked by her donkey, the Hartford Courant reported.

The coyote attacked her again the same day when she was driving her vehicle, WTIC reported. The woman told wildlife officials she attempted to run the animal over, but it was able to elude the vehicle and run away, according to the television station.
The woman’s neighbors, who also noticed the aggressiveness of the coyote, found the animal several hours later and shot it, the Courant reported. Wildlife officials said the carcass was not tested, but was disposed of.
The woman said she might have come in contact with the animal’s saliva while fighting it, WTIC reported. She said she was taking the rabies tests as a precaution, the television station reported.
