MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. — A 14-year-old girl who was home alone in Middleborough, Massachusetts, is credited with helping police catch the person who broke into her house.
In a 911 call shared with WFXT, the teenager tells the dispatcher that somebody broke into her house and that she is home alone. “I got him out of the house, I scared him,” she tells the dispatcher in a shaking voice.
Middleborough police told WFXT the teenager was woken up around 7:20 a.m. by the intruder, whom she confronted while he was allegedly trying to steal from the home. The teen then grabbed a kitchen knife, locked herself in her room, and captured video of the suspect’s license plate before calling 911.
Middleborough police chief Joseph Perkins identified the suspect as Joseph Ridge to WFXT, describing him as a known criminal with a violent past.
“I would like to commend the courageous actions of this girl. Even in the midst of an extremely scary event, her bravery assisted us in identifying the man believed to be responsible for breaking into her home,” Perkins told WFXT. “The suspect, in this case, is a career criminal who was arrested after terrorizing a 14-year-old girl in her own home. Hopefully his arrest this time will bring this known felon to account for his crimes.”
