According to the Los Angeles Times and KABC-TV, fans, friends and relatives gathered along Hollywood Boulevard to pay tribute to the slain “Higher” rapper in a star dedication ceremony Monday – his birthday.

“Whenever you’re in the City of Angels, and you see this star, I hope that it encourages you to break away from whatever might be holding you back, and for you to run your marathon until God says that it’s finished,” Hussle’s fiancée Lauren London told the crowd during the event, which also featured speeches from Hussle’s grandmother, father and sister, according to KABC.

Hussle, born Ermias Asghedom, was killed in March 2019 when he was just 33, The Associated Press previously reported. Eric Ronald Holder Jr., who was found guilty of murder in the slaying, is scheduled to be sentenced next month, according to the Times.

In a statement ahead of Monday’s ceremony, Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez praised Hussle as a “creative genius” who had been “committed to helping his community,” citing his “savvy business moves and charitable contributions.”

“We’re honored to unveil his star on what would have been his 37th birthday,” the statement continued.
