‘Tonight is hard’: 4-year-old boy dies from dog bite; victim identified

MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. — A 4-year-old boy in northern Alabama died on Monday after being bitten by a dog, authorities said.

Update 10:18 p.m. EST Feb. 27: Authorities said the boy, identified as 4-year-old Beau Clark, was in critical condition after being attacked by an Olde English Bulldog, WHNT-TV reported. The boy later died at Decatur Morgan Hospital, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

The dog was later euthanized, WHNT reported.

Deputies said the boy’s father, identified as Kevin Clark, attempted to rescue him from the dog and was severely hurt, but he has since been released from an area hospital.

The Olde English Bulldog belonged to a neighbor, WAAY-TV reported.

A GoFundMe page has been established for the Clark family.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a medical emergency at 6 p.m. CST about five miles west of Hartselle, WHNT-TV reported.

The child was discovered in critical condition and was airlifted to an area hospital, according to WAAY-TV. The dog believed to have bitten the child was euthanized, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office did not identify the child, their age or gender. It was unclear what led to the animal biting the child.

“Please pray for the family of the child who was killed by a dog tonight in our community, our Deputies, EMS and VFD that responded to the scene,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook.

An investigation is ongoing.
