SHALER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Police in Shaler Township are searching for two people in connection with a violent takeover robbery that was captured on surveillance video at the McDonald’s on Route 8.
The two armed men entered the restaurant early Sunday morning, ran behind the counter and pepper-sprayed three employees, police said. No customers were inside at the time.
Police said the robbers, who had guns and were wearing surgical masks and latex gloves, hit another employee on the head before forcing her to remove money from the safe.
"Whenever you have a violent robbery like this, where they have handguns, it is concerning to us,” Shaler Township Police Lt. Sean Frank said.
A few of the employees got down on the floor of the back room as the two robbers left out the back door and ran across the parking lot with an unknown amount of money, police said.
No one was seriously hurt.
“If anyone recognizes their images, their mannerisms, if they could, please call 911 because we are working with other agencies that may have similar robberies that have occurred,” Frank said.
Investigators believe that the Shaler robbery could be connected to another one last month at the McDonald’s in Washington.
