WVU freshman on Kentucky: ‘They're going to be 36-1'

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The University of Kentucky men’s basketball team is chasing perfection.

Going into Thursday’s Sweet 16 matchup with the West Virginia Mountaineers, the Wildcats are undefeated on the season. Four more victories, and Big Blue Nation will be cutting down the nets with a 40-0 record.

Hold it right there -- so says at least one Mountaineer.

Daxter Miles Jr., a freshman guard that plays about 20 minutes per game, isn’t quite ready to crown the ‘Cats champs just yet.

"They should be more intimidated, because they're the ones that got the high standard, and we're coming for them," Miles told reporters, according to Brett Dawson of Cats Illustrated.

Miles went on to all-but guarantee a victory over John Calipari’s team.

“I give them their props, and salute them for getting to 36-0. But (Thursday), they’re going to be 36-1,” Miles said.

According to NBC Sports College Basketball Talk, he also told reporters that Kentucky doesn't play hard, which certainly won't be the case after reporters grilled the Kentucky players about it all day on Wednesday.

Kentucky prepared to face "Press Virginia"

Calipari expects West Virginia to press his top-ranked team from start to finish in the Sweet 16.

The Wildcats, who are seeking to become the first school to go unbeaten since Indiana's national title team in 1976, have faced presses all season, but not one quite like they'll see from the Mountaineers (29-5) -- or "Press Virginia" as they've been nicknamed.

Calipari knows West Virginia excels at "creating havoc" and forcing teams into turnovers.

West Virginia leads the nation in steals, but those will be tougher to come by against a tall and talented Kentucky squad that has shown few flaws.

Still, the Mountaineers are confident their press can work.

"Why wouldn't it?" West Virginia guard Juwan Staten said.

The matchup will also feature Calipari going up against Huggins, one of his closest coaching friends.
