PITTSBURGH — Preparations are underway for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and while we’re still more than a year away from the opening ceremony, the logo was unveiled on Wednesday.
The image features a unique typeface with the internationally recognizable Olympic rings and the NBC Peacock logo.
“The design of the word ‘Tokyo’ is bold and fluid, illustrating with each character the dynamic movement of an Olympic athlete with a subtle reference to the distinct line forms of the Japanese written language,” David Barton, Art Director for NBC Olympics, said.
The unveiling of the logo comes on the 54th anniversary of the opening ceremony 1964 Olympic Games, the last to be held in Tokyo.
WPXI is the only place in Pittsburgh to watch the Olympics. We’ll have complete coverage of the games, the winners and losers, and all of the local athletes competing for gold.
