New York Jets release former Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell

The New York Jets have released running back Le’Veon Bell.

In a statement from the team, General ManagerJoe Douglas said the team made the decision to release Bell. The organization appreciates his efforts during his time with them, and they believe the decision is in the best interests of both parties.

The Jets had reportedly been trying to trade the former Steelers running back, who had expressed his unhappiness with his role in Head Coach Adam Gase’s offense. Bell posted on Twitter shortly after the announcement.

Since signing a 4-year, $52.5 million contract, Bell has averaged just 3.3 yards per carry with the Jets. The running back earned $28 million playing in just 18 games for the team.

After missing the 2018 season because of a contract dispute, Bell scored just three rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown. He tallied 1,363 yards.

Bell is now a free agent.
