PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins will kick off the 2016-17 regular season as defending Stanley Cup champions with three games at CONSOL Energy Center.
Opening their 50th anniversary season, the Penguins will take on the Washington Capitals on Oct. 13, followed by games against the Anaheim Ducks on Oct. 15 and Colorado Avalanche on Oct. 17.
In all, six of the Penguins’ nine October contests will be played at home.
The Penguins will play against the San Jose Sharks, who they beat to win the Stanley Cup, at CONSOL on Oct. 20. The two teams will meet for a second time in San Jose on Nov. 5.
On Feb. 25, the Penguins will host the Philadelphia Flyers in an outdoor game at Heinz Field as part of the Coors Light NHL Stadium Series. It will be the fourth outdoor game the Penguins have participated in, and the second at Heinz Field following the 2011 NHL Winter Classic against Washington.
