NHL CBA sets Dec. 1 start date for 2020-21 season

We're still awaiting the results of the NHLPA's and NHL Board of Governors' votes on the extension to the collective bargaining agreement and plan to resume the NHL season.

The agreement would extend the collective bargaining agreement through the 2025-26 season.

TSN's Frank Seravalli on Wednesday reported on some of the details that are in plan on which the players and Board of Governors are voting, which will take effect if both side ratify the agreement:

  • The latest the Stanley Cup Final can run for this season is Oct. 2
  • The NHL Draft will be held on Oct. 6
  • Free agency will begin either Oct. 9 or seven days after the Stanley Cup is awarded, whichever is later
  • Training camps for the 2020-21 season will open on Nov. 17
  • The 2020-21 season will open on Dec. 1
