Neither the Penguins nor the NHL have announced the team's postseason roster, but it's probably no coincidence that the league's media website now lists 31 players for them.
That is the maximum number allowed to be part of the 52-member team contingent scheduled to travel to the “hub” city of Toronto today.
And the group, which includes 17 forwards, 10 defensemen and four goalies, includes a few surprises, even if they’re a bit mild.
For example, winger Samuel Poulin, their first-round draft choice in 2019, did not make it, but Phil Varone, acquired from Montreal with Riley Barber in a four-player deal at the trade deadline, did.
The other two players missing from the initial training camp roster are forward Sam Miletic and goaltender Alex D’Orio.
