Pittsburgh's Leah Smith planning to train for 2020 Olympics

PITTSBURGH — During a trip to the Western P. Humane Society to meet a dog named after her, Olympic swimmer and medalist Leah Smith said she plans to train for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

The Mt. Lebanon native won an Olympic gold medal alongside Katie Ledecky in the 4x200m freestyle relay and a bronze medal of her own in the 200m freestyle.

“I’ve been looking up to people who have Olympic medals my whole life and it's weird now to be one,” Smith said.

Smith returns to school next week at the University of West Virginia, but looking even further into the future, Smith is looking ahead to Tokyo.

“I’m definitely going to train for another Olympics. I think that when you go to the meet it makes you hungry for more and makes you want to do better,” Smith said.
