Penguins sign defenseman Schultz to one-year contract

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins resigned defenseman Justin Schultz to a one-year contract, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jim Rutherford, announced Wednesday.

The deal has an average annual value of $1.4 million.

Schultz, 26, contributed four assists and a plus-1 in 15 appearances during the 2016 Stanley Cup playoffs.

He played his first three-plus years with Edmonton, tallying 28 goals, 73 assists and 101 points in 248 games.

The Penguins acquired Schultz from Edmonton for a 2016 third-round draft pick on Feb. 27.
