People in 4 counties asked to voluntarily reduce water use due to Drought Watch

PITTSBURGH — Butler, Armstrong, Indiana and Fayette counties have been placed under a Drought Watch by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

A Drought Watch declaration is the first of the state’s three drought classifications, including a Drought Warning and a Drought Emergency.

Moderate drought conditions continue across much of the area, with many spots only experiencing 15%-30% of the normal rainfall. A Drought Watch calls for a voluntary 5% reduction in water use and puts large water consumers on notice to begin planning for the possibility of reduced water supplies.
