Pittsburgh, Pa. — There has been a variety of spooky forecasts over the years. Luckily, this year, Halloween in Pittsburgh will cooperate.
So as the day comes to an end and goblins prepare for a night of fright, we decided to look back and see how scary the weather has been in the city on Halloween.
Temperatures on this day have been a little wild, jumping from year to year. They generally average in the upper 50s, but have been seen well above and below that.
The warmest Halloween came in both 1876 and 1950, when the high temperature reached 79 degrees.
On the other hand, there were a few cool days too. The coldest October 31 came in 1906 when the mercury only hit 35 degrees.
We’ve seen more treats than tricks when it comes to precipitation on Halloween.
There were several years with precipitation, but only one totaled more than an inch. The most that fell on October 31 was 1.22 inches in 1899.
We’ve fared well in terms of snowfall. Since records began, there were only nine years with snow and eight of them only totaled a trace.
However, if you remember 1993, then you recall the 6.6 inches of snow that fell in Pittsburgh.
Will there be a frightful trick in 2017 or a delightful treat? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
