Winter storm dumps several inches of snow across Pittsburgh region

PITTSBURGH — Allow extra time to clean off your car and shovel your sidewalk. The steadiest snow will taper to spotty snow showers and flurries the will linger through the day.

Colder temperatures and wind will be the weather headline for the daytime Saturday with wind chills in the single digits much of the day. You’ll need the winter coats, hats, gloves, and hand warmers if you’re headed out anywhere.

A few more snow showers will be possible during the day Sunday, but any accumulation should be minimal. 50s return to the area Monday.

UPDATE 1:46 p.m.: PennDOT has lifted the speed limit and right-lane-only commercial vehicle restrictions on I-70 and I-79

UPDATE 9:34 a.m.: A few cars slid off the side of the road on I-79 north before the Bridgeville exit.

UPDATE 8:45 a.m.: Traffic is backed up on Interstate 79 south after a crash between Southpointe and Canonsburg. All lanes are blocked.

UPDATE 8:05 a.m.: A car crashed into a guide rail along the Parkway West outbound in Carnegie.

UPDATE 6:45 a.m.: Several crashes have been reported so far this morning, including this one on Interstate 70 westbound near Route 51 in Rostraver Township.

UPDATE 6:30 a.m.: Speed limits are being reduced as roadways become snow-covered in western Pennsylvania and crews work to get them cleared.
