E. Coli outbreak linked to packaged salad, CDC says

An E. coli outbreak has been linked to packaged salad sold at numerous supermarkets, including Giant Eagle.

13 people have become ill, and four have been hospitalized due to E. coli found in packaged salads. The cases were reported in six states.

The contaminated salads are Simple Truth organic power greens, and Nature’s Basket organic power greens, which are mixes of organic spinach, mizuna, kale, and chard.

“We support the CDC’s decision to issue this food safety alert involving our Nature’s Basket Organic Power Greens salad mix out of an abundance of caution as it continues its multi-retailer investigation,” a Giant Eagle spokesperson said. Importantly, this alert only affects this specific Nature’s Basket product with best by dates through December 20, 2021. Our guests can be assured that all Nature’s Basket Organic Power Greens product currently for sale in our stores is unaffiliated with this alert and is safe for consumption.”

The CDC says investigators are working to see if any other products were contaminated.
