Activities and crafts for the kiddos as weather heats up

Art supplies MLGW has a poster contest for Shelby County students. (WPXI)

It’s officially starting to warm up, and let’s hope it stays that way!

With the weather heating up and kids schooling from home, we thought we would create a list of fun outdoor activities and crafts to do with the kiddos to keep them busy.

Nature walk scavenger hunt:

Take a walk outside, but change it up!

Venture on a walk around your neighborhood or a local park and find your favorite things in nature while making it into a fun game.

The kids can find anything from a dog walking nearby, a ladybug or even a specific kind of tree or flower.

You can make it even more exciting by creating a sheet for the kids to follow along with pictures of everything they need to find so they can cross the items off as they find them.

K-cup crafts:

Do you have leftover Keurig K-cups you always just throw away? Well, they can become the perfect craft for kids.

They can be made into a beautiful spring flower or some of their favorite animals.

Click here for a list of things to make with K-cups.

Popsicle stick flowerpot:

Want to teach your kiddo to take care of something and watch it grow? This is the perfect way to do so.

Paint some popsicle sticks and glue them to a jar. Throw in some dirt and seeds of your favorite flower or plant and teach them how to take care of the plant to watch it grow.

DIY Lightning Bug Jar:

Lightning bugs will be lighting up the sky soon enough, and this is the perfect craft to get the kiddos excited.

Grab a clear jar with a lid and make sure to poke some holes in the top.

Then add some ribbon or paint a fun design on the jar -- but make sure the whole thing isn’t covered so the little ones can watch it glow.

DIY Window Clings:

Your kids can customize their very own window clings to decorate your windows with these simple ingredients -- washable school glue, liquid dish soap and food coloring.

Rock Painting:

Do your little ones like to gather rocks everywhere they go?

Now they can paint them and turn the rocks into masterpieces and even add them to your garden for some extra color!
