WASHINGTON, Pa. — Police in Washington are now calling a deadly shooting in a grocer store parking lot the result of a "road rage" incident.
“We’re trying to see how far back the altercation started,” Washington Detective Dan Stanek said.
Witnessed reported that the two men were yelling at each other in the 400 or 500 block of Jefferson Avenue, a few blocks from the West Beau Street plaza where the shooting occurred, Stanek said.
Customers said they ran for cover when shots rang out in the lot of a Shop N' Save Thursday afternoon.
Investigators said 55-year-old Vaughn Simonelli was killed when Brandon Thomas, of Pittsburgh, shot him.
"I come here almost daily to shop, to get multiple things for my family. It happens right here next to me? I mean, it's scary," said customer Brandon Pinkerton.
Police said Thomas was charged with criminal homicide. Officers said he called 911 and waited for police to arrive.
